2020 has been a very rough year for Discovery Health Care Foundation with Covid-19.  We had to cancel all our fundraisers - due to social distancing - our Hockey Game, Telethon, Walk 4 Mental Health and our Golf Tournament.  Luckily, we will be holding our annual Radiothon on October 29th (virtually).

To offset this tremendous loss of income to the foundation and be able to meet the financial needs of the health care facilities in our region, the Foundation Chair – Kevin Parsons – has volunteered to do a Walk for Health Care from Clarenville Hospital to his home in Black River (Swift Current), a distance of 52 km.

Our region spans from Clarenville east to Bellevue, west to Charlottetown, the Burin Peninsula as far as Swift Current and the Bonavista Peninsula, 96 communities in total with a population of approximately 30,000.

Kevin plans to walk on Saturday, September 26th, in memory of his brother Terry who would have been 65 on September 25th but passed away at the Dr. G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in 2015 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

His goal is to raise $1,000 per km, for a total of $52,000.  To reach this goal he’s asking all our committee volunteers to help in canvasing our many communities for donations.  Corporate sponsors who have always supported our many fundraisers are asked to make their donations this year to this walk.
